James Turrell, the artist known for providing sensory experiences based on perception, has a permanent immersive fine art installation inside Louis Vuitton City Center, which amazingly remains a secret to most visitors and locals alike. Comprised of two rooms with synchronized lighting that floods the retina with high pigment fields of light, Akhob provides you with loss in depth perception,  almost to the point of hallucinatory effects. The work’s title is ancient Egyptian for “pure water”, a reference to the effect of the light washing over your eyes.  While this sounds like an Instagrammers heaven, there is a strict policy against photography, with the aim to fully enjoy the installation.

“Akhob, by James Turrrell” at Louis Vuitton City Center, 3720 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas; open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays), free to the public. On view by appointment only, (702) 730-3150.
